Investigation into Fatal Crash at 21700 Loop 494

Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 21700 Loop 494 about 3:55 a.m. today (March 23).

The identity of the male victim, 26, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Griffiths and Officer T. Smith reported:

The victim, a bicyclist, was traveling northbound at the above address in an extremely dark portion of the roadway.  The driver of a silver tractor-trailer truck, also traveling northbound in the same traffic lane, braked and attempted to swerve out of the way but struck the bicyclist, who was not wearing any reflective gear. 

The driver remained at the scene and called police.  There are no charges in this incident, pending further investigation.
