Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 21700 Katy Freeway (West Interstate Highway 10) about 7:15 a.m. today (March 4).
The identity of the male victim, 31, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant L. Ross and Officer K. Mathews reported:
The victim was operating a Triumph motorcycle eastbound on the freeway at the above address when, according to witnesses, the motorcycle and a white Ford Escape merged into a moving lane of traffic at the same time. The motorcycle struck the rear of the Ford and the victim fell off the motorcycle. He was then possibly struck by a tractor-trailer truck, which was not on scene when officers arrived. Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.
The driver of the Ford, who remained at the scene, was determined not to be impaired and was questioned and released.
The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information on the tractor-trailer or its driver is urged to contact the HPD Hit and Run Unit at 713-247-4072.
