Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 17700 Gulf Freeway (South Interstate Highway 45) service road about 9:55 p.m. last Friday (March 2).
The identity of the male victim, 41, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant S. Maness and Officer J. Glenn reported:
The male driver of a red Ford Edge was traveling southbound at the above address when he failed to control speed and struck a white Chevrolet Cruze, which was parked and disabled with mechanical issues in a moving lane of traffic. The impact caused the Chevrolet to strike its driver (victim), standing in front of the vehicle, and then a Ford F-250 pickup truck parked in front of the Chevrolet. The driver of the pickup truck had stopped to provide a jump start to the Chevrolet.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured. The driver of the Ford Edge was transported to Clear Lake Regional Medical Center where he consented to a blood draw. He did not show visible signs of intoxication. No charges have been filed in the crash at this time.
The investigation is continuing.
