Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 1700 Kelley about 1:20 a.m. on Sunday (July 16).
The identities of the two deceased male suspects, who were fleeing police at the time of the crash, are pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant P. Kopulos and Officer C. Semien reported:
An HPD patrol officer observed a gray Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck possibly related to a failure to stop and give information crash a short distance away. The officer attempted to stop the pickup truck at the intersection of the North Freeway (North Interstate Highway 45) and Crosstimbers, however the driver fled at a high rate of speed.
The officer, using lights and siren, pursued the suspect vehicle southbound on the North Freeway and then eastbound on the North Loop East (North Interstate Highway 610 East). The suspect continued fleeing at a high rate of speed, exited at Irvington, and then ran a red light. He then continued speeding on the feeder road before striking a concrete pillar head-on. Both occupants of the truck were pronounced dead at the scene.
As is customary when an individual dies in the presence of an HPD officer during a pursuit, the incident is being investigated by the HPD Vehicular Crimes and Internal Affairs Divisions.
