Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 16500 MIddlebrook Drive about 12:35 p.m. last Friday (April 8).
The identity of the female victim, 90, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant F. Briones and Officer D. Ortega reported:
The driver of a white Kia Optima was traveling southbound near the above address and when a gray Chevrolet Impala failed to yield the right of way and turned left from MIddlebrook Drive onto Hickory Knoll Drive. The Kia struck the rear of the Impala, causing the Impala to spin and leave the roadway.
Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported the passenger in the Impala (victim) to an area hospital where she was pronounced deceased. The driver of the Impala was also transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The male driver of the Kia and his passenger were transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.
The drivers of both vehicles were determined not to be impaired. It is believed the driver of the Kia may have been driving at a high rate of speed prior to the crash.
No charges have been filed at this time, as the investigation is continuing.
