Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 16100 Eastex Freeway (North U.S. Highway 59) about 7:10 p.m. on Wednesday (October 9).
The identity of the deceased woman, 40, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Hall and Officer A. Mares reported:
Humble Police Department officers, with assistance from Texas Department of Public Safety troopers, Montgomery County Precinct 4 deputies, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and HPD, were engaged in a vehicle pursuit of a stolen vehicle, a silver Chevrolet Trailblazer. The Trailblazer was traveling eastbound in the area of Will Clayton Parkway and the Eastex Freeway. The suspect then drove the wrong way southbound on the northbound Eastex Freeway service road and freeway main lanes.
Montgomery County Precinct 4 deputies continued to pursue the vehicle the wrong way on the freeway, as other police departments discontinued their pursuit. The suspect then attempted to exit the wrong way near the above address and struck a silver Kia Soul in the exit lane. The female driver of the Kia and the male passenger, 43, were transported by Humble Fire Department paramedics to an area hospital where the driver was pronounced deceased.
The male suspect, 25, was detained without further incident. The Humble Police Department will continue the investigation into the suspect and any charges will be determined by their agency and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office.
The Houston Police Department is investigating the fatal crash due to the crash occurring within the Houston city limits. The investigation into the stolen vehicle and the pursuit will be conducted by the Humble Police Department.
