The fatal crash that occurred in the 15900 block of Eastex Freeway (North U.S. Highway 59) service road about 4:45 p.m. on October 23 will be referred to a Harris County Grand Jury.
The identity of the deceased male, 76, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeants F. Briones and Officer T. La reported:
A silver Chevrolet Spark was traveling northbound at the above address and stopped at a red light. A white Hyundai Santa Fe was also traveling northbound and struck the Chevrolet from behind. The Hyundai also struck a black Nissan Altima in another lane.
Houston Fire Department paramedics transported the male driver of the Chevrolet to an area hospital, where doctors pronounced him deceased. A passenger in the Chevrolet was also transported with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the Nissan drove to an hospital to be checked out.
The male driver of the Hyundai showed no signs of intoxication. After consulting with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, it was determined the crash would be referred to a Harris County Grand Jury.
