Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 15300 Eastex Freeway (North U.S. Highway 59) about 3:20 p.m. on Tuesday (Oct. 15).
The identities of the deceased male and female are pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant L. Le and Officer R. Ramos reported:
A gray GMC Sierra pickup truck and a white Mercedes-Benz C-Class were traveling southbound on the freeway at the above address when the driver of the Mercedes made an unsafe lane change onto an exit ramp to the North Sam Houston Parkway and was struck by the GMC. Both vehicles rolled over and were disabled in the right shoulder of the freeway. The Mercedes then caught on fire.
Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced two passengers – a male and a female – in the Mercedes deceased. The male driver, 30, of the Mercedes was transported to an area hospital in stable condition. The male driver, 29, of the GMC was not injured.
The investigation is continuing.
