Investigation into Fatal Crash at 1500 Chimney Rock Road

Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 1500 Chimney Rock Road about 3 a.m. on Sunday (March 20).

The identity of the female victim is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

The victim was driving a black Jeep Cherokee at a high rate of speed southbound at the above address.  The Jeep left the roadway and struck a tree, causing the vehicle to catch fire.  The driver died at the scene.

Local residents were able to break the back window of the SUV, allowing the front-seat passenger to crawl out of the burning vehicle to safety.  The passenger was transported by Houston Fire Department paramedics to an area hospital in stable condition.

The investigation is continuing.
