Investigation into Fatal Crash at 14900 Eastex Freeway

Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 14000 Eastex Freeway (North U.S. Highway 59) about 7:50 p.m. on Monday (Jan. 9).

The identity of the deceased male, 30, is pending verification by the Montgomery County Forensic Services Center.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Rose and Officer  L. Fenoglio reported:

The male was driving a blue Toyota Corolla traveling northbound near the above address and approaching the exit ramp to the Sam Houston Parkway. The vehicle was behind a red Toyota Corolla and a blue Mazda CX3 traveling in the same direction.

As the vehicles were on the exit ramp, the red Corolla and Mazda collided and spun into the freeway main lanes and struck a concrete barrier on the left shoulder.

The driver of the blue Corolla attempted to avoid the crash, but lost control of his vehicle and struck the metal dividing barrier between the exit ramp and the main lanes.  The Corolla did not strike any of the other vehicles. The driver was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The female driver, 40, of the Mazda was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.  The driver of the red Corolla was not injured.

The investigation is continuing.
