Investigation into Fatal Crash at 14900 Clay Road

A fatal crash at 14900 Clay Road that occurred about 11:15 a.m. last Friday (June 17) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.

The identity of the male victim, 31, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant G. Clark and Officer D. Jones reported:

The driver of a white Ford Maverick pickup truck was traveling eastbound at the above address and struck a white Honda Fit turning onto Clay Road from War Memorial Drive.

The driver of the Fit was transported via Life Flight helicopter to Memorial Hermann – Texas Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.

The driver of the pickup stated to investigators he looked down at his phone to check the GPS and when he looked up, was unable to stop his vehicle in time.  According to witnesses, the driver of the pickup truck ran a red light.

The driver of the pickup truck, who remained at the scene, did not show signs of intoxication at the scene. The investigation will be referred to the Harris County grand jury.
