Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at 13800 Gulf Freeway (South Interstate Highway 45) service road about 3:20 a.m. on Saturday (October 24).
A male victim, 25, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. A female victim, 25, was transported to HCA Houston Healthcare Clear Lake Hospital with serious injuries that are believed to be non-life-threatening.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Rose and Officer J. Crisler reported:
A red Pontiac Grand Prix was driving at a high rate of speed southbound on the Gulf Freeway when the vehicle exited at Scarsdale Boulevard and the driver lost control. The vehicle struck a curb and then a tree, causing it to split into two pieces and eject both occupants. The car subsequently caught fire. At this time, it is unknown which victim was driving the vehicle.
The investigation is continuing.
