| Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 13000 East Freeway (East Interstate Highway 10) about 10 a.m. on Saturday (June 10).
The identity of the female victim, 69, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant K. Harris and Officer E. Morgado reported:
The victim was driving a beige Ford Explorer westbound on the East Freeway when it was struck on the driver's side windshield by road debris. The debris, a metal tow hitch ball, then struck the victim. Once she was incapacitated, the passenger (the victim's husband) grabbed the steering wheel and managed to guide the vehicle to a stop. The passenger then placed the victim in the back seat and drove to East Houston Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased.
The investigation is continuing.
