Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 12400 North Freeway (North Interstate Highway 45) about 4:35 a.m. today (Aug. 11).
The identity of the male victim, 57, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant C. Prejean and Officer L. Ho reported:
A white Mack flat bed truck was traveling northbound at the above address when its trailer detached. The trailer came to a stop in moving lanes of traffic of the four-lane roadway. A male driver, 27, of a red Ford Mustang was traveling northbound and struck the trailer. The male victim was driving a beige Ford Ranger veered to the right to avoid the crash and struck the rear of the trailer. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.
The driver of the Mustang was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.
The male driver, 41, of the Mack flat bed truck, who remained at the scene, was not injured and showed no signs of intoxication. He was questioned and released with no charges filed at this time.
