Houston police are investigating the fatal crash that occurred at 12000 Westheimer Road about 9:45 p.m. Sunday (March 15).
The identity of the female victim, 24, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Uribe and Officer R. Romo reported:
The driver of a silver Mazda CX-5 was traveling westbound on Westheimer when he struck a pedestrian (victim) walking northbound in the intersection of Westheimer and West Houston Center Boulevard.
The driver of the Mazda remained at the scene and attempted to render first aid to the victim until bystanders urged him to leave. The driver got scared, left the scene and went to work at which time the driver’s boss urged him to return to the scene. When the driver returned to the scene he was detained by officers, questioned and released.
The victim was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where she was pronounced deceased. A preliminary investigation indicated the driver of the Mazda had a green light and the victim had failed to yield the right of way. The investigation is continuing.
