Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 12000 Fondren about 8:55 p.m. on Saturday (June 24).
The identity of the deceased male victim, 40, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant P. Kopulos and Officer R. Romo reported:
The victim was driving a white Ford F-150 pickup truck south on Fondren and approaching the railroad tracks at the Main Street intersection. A Union Pacific train was traveling west on the tracks. According to witnesses, the driver of the truck disregarded the lowered railroad track barricades and lights and drove around a vehicle stopped in front of him, in an attempt to cross the tracks. The train then struck the truck and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
