Houston police are investigating a fatal hit and run crash at 11400 South Sam Houston Parkway East (Beltway 8) service road about 7:10 p.m. last Friday (January 31).
The identity of the deceased male, 44, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant M. Sudduth and Officer R. Guzman reported:
Several vehicles were stopped at the above address at a red light at the intersection with Sabo Road. An 18 wheeler tractor-trailer truck struck the rear of a silver Chevrolet Cavalier. The tractor trailer continued forward and then struck a black Lexus RX350, a white Chevrolet Tahoe, a blue Ford Crown Victoria and a Toyota of unknown model. Th impact caused multiple crashes between the vehicles. The drivers of the 18-wheeler and the Toyota fled the scene without providing assistance.
Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the driver of the Cavalier deceased. A male juvenile passenger, 9, in the Cavalier was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The female driver of the Lexus was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. The occupants of the other vehicles were also transported by paramedics to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation is continuing.
