Investigation into Fatal Crash at 10400 Eastex Freeway

Houston police are investigating a fatal auto-pedestrian crash at 10400 Eastex Freeway (North U.S. Highway 59) about 1:05 a.m. on Saturday (January 7).

The identity of the deceased male, 54, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant E. Alejandro and Officer F. Flynn reported:

According to witnesses, a male pedestrian was crossing the freeway main lanes and was struck by a white Freightliner tractor trailer truck traveling westbound on the freeway.  The male was then struck by a gray Toyota Tacoma pickup truck.  Due to heavy traffic, both drivers continued to travel on the freeway and then parked their vehicles on the right shoulder near the Little York Road exit and walked back to the scene of the crash.

Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the pedestrian deceased.  The drivers of both vehicles were determined not to be impaired and were questioned and released.

The investigation is continuing.
