Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 8600 Bissonnet Street about 11:05 p.m. on Sunday (January 17).
The identity of the male victim, 22, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Rose and Officer Z. Radcliffe reported:
Houston Fire Department emergency personnel observed a white GMC Acadia traveling at a high rate of speed westbound near the above address. The Acadia swerved to avoid some traffic barrels, failed to stay in a single lane, and struck the guardrail of a bridge over the bayou.
The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was transported by HFD paramedics to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
The investigation is continuing.
