| Houston police are investigating a crash following a vehicle pursuit of a suspect at 6600 Southwest Freeway (South U. S. Highway 59) service road about 9:45 a.m. on Sunday (May 26).
The male suspect was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in critical condition.
HPD Officer M. Davis suffered a left leg injury and was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he was treated and released. Officer Davis is assigned to the HPD Traffic Enforcement Division and was sworn in as an officer in February 1997.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant K. Harris and Officer H. Nguyen reported:
Officer Davis attempted to stop a male driver of a white Buick Regal for a seat belt violation in the u-turn lane in the 7100 block of Bellaire Boulevard and the Southwest Freeway service road. The suspect refused to stop and intentionally struck Officer Davis, causing him to roll off the hood of the Buick and injure his left leg. The suspect then fled the scene in his vehicle.
Officer Davis managed to get into his patrol vehicle and pursued the suspect, who evaded police northbound on the Southwest Freeway service road. The suspect ran the red light at the intersection of Hillcroft and struck a silver Isuzu Rodeo in the intersection. The Buick was then struck by a gray Ford F-150 pickup truck and the impact pushed the Buick into a traffic signal pole.
Paramedics transported the suspect to the hospital. The persons in the Ford and the Isuzu suffered minor injuries and were not transported to the hospital.
