The Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs (MOCA) released a video today recognizing the many innovations the City of Houston’s 2020 arts & cultural grantees have made in response to COVID-19.
Houston artists and cultural organizations have been hit hard by the pandemic. With a projected 51 percent decrease in city arts funding revenue for the year, resources to deliver programs as planned are no longer available. Despite the challenges, Houston artists and organizations have found creative ways to continue serving their community.
Funded by the City of Houston Hotel Occupancy Tax dedicated to the arts and administered by MOCA with Houston Arts Alliance, the annual grants program awarded grants to 142 nonprofits and 72 artists across the City.As Houstonians continue to work together through a global pandemic, hurricane season and other challenges, the adaptability and strength of Houston’s creative sector demonstrates the city’s resiliency.
Houstonians can continue supporting local artists and organizations by supporting any of the upcoming virtual events listed on the Houston Cultural Events Calendar.
