Mayor Sylvester Turner issued a proclamation recognizing June as Immigrant Heritage Month in the city of Houston. Immigrant Heritage Month, now in its fifth year, is an opportunity to reflect on our shared immigrant heritage, and to celebrate the meaningful and positive ways immigrants impact communities across the country.
The Mayor’s Office of New Americans and Immigrant Communities will be celebrating Immigrant Heritage Month this Saturday, June 16, at an outdoor celebration and interactive art installation at the Discovery Green. Participants will be encouraged to affix a flag that represents their ancestry to the art piece to honor their heritage. The day-long event is free and open to the public.
