Houston Fire Department Response to Bush Intercontinental Airport Incident

WHAT: February 1, 2024 at approximately 5:30 a.m. a biodegradable, PFAS-free, high-expansion fire suppression foam was inadvertently released at a United Airlines hangar located off Wright Road. The cause of the release is unclear, at this time.

The foam product spread approximately 100 yards from the building in each direction. Environmental clean-up teams hired by United Airlines are leading the clean-up and mitigation effort.

There is no immediate threat to citizens. All runways remain open at this time, and there is no impact to travelers flying in and out of Bush Airport, as a result of this incident.

United Airlines received support from the following agencies: The Houston Fire Department, Houston Airports and Houston Public Works.
