WHAT: House Fire
WHEN: May 11, 2022 at 12:57 a.m.
WHERE: 7500 block of Hirsch, 77016
INJURIES: No reported injuries.
PROPERTY SAVED: $50,000 in estimated property saved.
DAMAGE: $100,000 in estimated damage.
CAUSE: Failure of equipment or heat source (electrical malfunction of wiring)
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within five minutes to find fire and smoke coming from a 1-story home. They made an attack on the fire and ventilated the house. A primary search was conducted, and it was determined everyone had safely made it outside. The utilities were secured, and the fire was controlled within 12 minutes. It was determined to be caused by an electrical malfunction of the wiring for a window air-conditioning unit. The fire spread to nearby furniture and ultimately into the structure of the home. Firefighters from Stations 39, 34, 43, 31, 30, 23 and 56 responded to this incident.
