House Fire in The South Belt / Ellington Area

WHAT: House fire.

WHEN: January 21, 2024, at 10:10 a.m.

WHERE: 10600 block of Kirkshire Dr. 77089.

INJURIES: Two firefighters injured and transported to the hospital.

PROPERTY SAVED: Not available.

DAMAGE: $275,000 in estimated damage.

CAUSE: Under investigation (appears to be accidental).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within three minutes and found fire coming from the roof of a 1-story house. They made an offensive attack and ensured everyone was safely out of the home. The roof was ventilated, and the utilities were secured. While controlling the fire, part of the ceiling fell and injured two firefighters. They were alert and were transported to the hospital for evaluation. Both firefighters were released from the hospital after being examined. Crews extinguished the fire which caused extensive damage. The American Red Cross was notified to assist the residents and HFD Arson investigators were requested to determine the cause and origin of the fire. 33 personnel responded to this incident, including firefighters from Stations 23, 70, 71, 52, 61, 93 and 24.
