HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS: BARC TO DELIVER 30 PETS TO ADOPTERS’ DOORSTEPS
HOUSTON–To help Houston’s shelter pets find homes for the holidays, BARC–the City of Houston’s Animal Shelter and Adoptions Center—is lowering adoption fees and personally delivering 30 pets to homes on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
BARC staff and volunteers plan to deliver 15 adopted pets per day on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day as part of BARC’s Home for the Holidays campaign. Pets that are adopted between December 21-23 qualify for the delivery service and adopters must live within a 7 mile radius of downtown Houston (77002). Full details about BARC’s adoption process are listed on BARC’s website.
Additionally, through December 31st, dogs and cats (ages five months and older) will be available for $5, thanks to the generous support of Proler Industries. This special $5 pet adoption package includes spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, a one-year city pet license, and a pre-registered microchip with a lifetime registration — worth hundreds of dollars if purchased independently.
Pets currently available for adoption can be found on BARC’s website, but Houstonians are encouraged to visit BARC and meet each animal in person. BARC is open for adoptions seven days a week from noon to 5:00 p.m. but will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
For those who are unable to permanently adopt a pet but would like to help animals in need, consider becoming a volunteer or becoming foster pet parent at BARC. BARC is especially in need of foster pet parents during the holiday season. Many dogs and cats enter BARC with treatable conditions that must be taken care of outside of the shelter before adoption. Puppies and kittens are often too young for adoption and need a little TLC before they can be permanently adopted.
