BARC TO HOST 3rd ANNUAL SENIOR PROM

HOUSTON – You are cordially invited to BARC’s 3rd Annual Senior Prom. Pet owners may bring their senior dogs and cats to partake in festivities. If you don’t have a silver haired furry friend, you may just leave the prom with a new roommate. BARC’s senior pets — dogs and cats 5 years and over — will be available for $5 adoption fees during the event.

When: Friday May 31, 2019
6 pm – 8 pm

Where: 3300 Carr St.
Houston, TX 77026

The Senior Prom Event highlights will include:

  • $5 adoption fees for all adoptable senior pets
  •  Pets available for foster care
  •  Official prom portraits by Nature Dog Photography
  •  Gifts, giveaways, and prizes for senior pets donated by PetSmart, Kriser’s Natural Pet, Pur•E•Sense, and more!

Prom attire is encouraged but not required to participate in the “Best Dressed” prom costume contests for both human and pet attendees!  And of course, what prom would be complete without music, dancing, decorations, and refreshments?

“We are very excited to host such a unique event for the community and for our own senior pets. We hope the community opens their homes to senior pets,” said Jennifer Barrera Wandrey, Outreach Manager at BARC.

The simplest, but most powerful thing Houstonians can do to help BARC and pets throughout the community is to foster, volunteer, donate and adopt. If you are unable to permanently adopt a pet but would like to help animals in need, BARC encourages you to consider becoming a volunteer or a foster pet parent at BARC. By getting animals into foster homes, BARC has more space for additional animals as they enter the shelter.

About BARC

BARC, the City of Houston’s Animal Shelter and Adoption Center, takes in more than 25,000 animals annually regardless of behavior, breed, or medical condition.  BARC works each day to improve the health and safety of Houstonians and their pets by pioneering programs such as low cost and no cost spay/neuter services, mobile adoptions, transfer/rescue partnerships, and community outreach. Through these programs and with support from community partners, BARC’s live release rate has improved from single-digits in 2009 to an 85% in 2019.
