WHAT: Autobody Shop Fire

DAMAGE: $1.25 million in estimated damage.
CAUSE: Under investigation.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within six minutes to find heavy fire and smoke coming from a metal auto body shop building with at least a dozen vehicles inside. Once they gained entrance, they made a defensive attack and the fire was brought under control and extinguished in just over an hour, with a combination of a ladder truck as well as operating hose lines from defensive positions. Primary and secondary searches were also completed. As a precaution, HFD Hazmat arrived on location and placed absorbent rolled sheets to absorb any potential runoff. The PH level of the runoff was tested and there did not appear to be any chemical runoff in the water. HFD Arson investigators were requested to determine the cause and origin of the fire. Crews from Stations 70, 93, 26, 36, 52, 29, 24, 40, 61, 23, Rescue 42, Rehab 17 and Hazmat 22 responded to this incident.
