Apartment Fire in The Westchase Area

WHAT: Apartment fire.
WHEN: April 4, 2024, at 9:18 a.m.
WHERE: 2909 Hayes Rd. 77082.
INJURIES: One civilian transported to the hospital.
PROPERTY SAVED: $510,000 in estimated property saved.
DAMAGE: $550,000 in estimated damage.
CAUSE: Unintentional (cooking).
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within six minutes to find fire coming the first and second floor of an apartment building and made an attack, extinguishing the main body of fire in a kitchen. The fire had spread to the attic and crews pulled the ceiling to access it and fully extinguish it. A primary search was completed, and one civilian was transported to the hospital. 15 units had smoke or attic space damage. The apartment management ensured they had vacancies to relocated everyone and the American Red Cross was notified to assist as well. 65 personnel responded to this incident, including firefighters from Stations 60, 2, 78, 83, 10, 69, 75, 76, 86, 31, 73, 57, Rescue 10 and Rehab 17.
