Apartment Fire in The Westbury Area

WHAT: Apartment fire.

WHEN: January 13, 2024, at 5:04 a.m.

WHERE: 12500 Dunlap St. 77035.

INJURIES: No reported injuries.

PROPERTY SAVED: $500,000 in estimated property saved.

DAMAGE: $150,000 in estimated damage.

CAUSE: Under investigation (incendiary).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within six minutes to find fire coming from the second floor of a 2-story apartment building and made an offensive attack. They conducted a primary search and ventilated the building. The fire was controlled and extinguished. Firefighters checked for extension and requested HFD Arson investigators to determine the cause and origin. HPD detained a suspect who was assessed by HFD EMS on scene. Four vacant units were damaged by fire and water. Two occupied units suffered from smoke damage. The power was also shut off to the entire building. The American Red Cross was notified to assist the residents. 40 personnel responded to this incident, including firefighters from Stations 82, 2, 21, 59, 68, 48, 80, 82 and 24.
