WHAT: Apartment fire.
WHEN: April 29, 2025, at 11:25 a.m.
WHERE: 1370 Afton at Westview Dr. 77055.
INJURIES: One firefighter was transported to the hospital after becoming overheated.
PROPERTY SAVED: $900,000 in estimated property saved.
DAMAGE: $350,000 in estimated damage.
CAUSE: HFD Arson investigators ruled the cause as accidental (kitchen fire).
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene to find smoke coming from the second floor of a 2-story apartment building. They made an attack on the fire and conducted a primary search. The unit was ventilated, and the utilities were controlled. A fire was found and extinguished in the kitchen. HFD Arson investigators were requested to determine the cause of the fire and crews completed property conservation by placing plastic sheeting over the items in the unit and nearby units. One firefighter became overheated and was transported to the hospital. A second firefighter suffered from an accident and was evaluated on scene, remaining on duty. 45 personnel responded to this incident, including crews from Stations 13, 50, 2, 5, 28, 38, 62, 6, 77, 9, 57, 33 and Rescue 42.
