Apartment Fire in The Mid West Area

WHAT: Apartment fire.

WHEN: April 3, 2024, at 1:49 p.m.

WHERE: 2200 S. Gessner Rd. 77063.

INJURIES: No reported injuries.

PROPERTY SAVED: $180,000 in estimated damage.

DAMAGE: $20,000 in estimated damage.

CAUSE: Unintentional. (incense left burning caught nearby items on fire).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within five minutes to find smoke coming from the first floor of a 2-story apartment building. They made an offensive attack and conducted a primary search. A small fire was found and extinguished with limited fire damage, however there was smoke and water damage throughout the unit. The fire was contained to the unit of origin, with some smoke spread to the adjacent units. Incense had been left burning on a table and caught it and nearby items on fire. 27 personnel responded to this incident, including firefighters from Stations 28, 83, 49, 60, 69, 57 and the Village Fire Department.
