WHAT: Apartment fire.

DAMAGE: $160,000 in estimated damage.
CAUSE: Failure of equipment or heat source.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene to find smoke coming from a first-floor apartment and made entry. They found and extinguished a fire in the kitchen. The fire was contained to the cabinets and sheetrock ceiling above the stove and vent hood. A primary search was completed, and a fan was used to remove the smoke from the apartment. Upon further investigation, wire was found burned along studs from the first to second floor and the utilities were secured. The American Red Cross was requested to assist the family. 41 personnel responded to this incident, including crews from Stations 28, 68, 2, 3, 51 and 60.
