Apartment Fire in The Central Northwest Area

WHAT: Apartment fire.

WHEN: February 24, 2024, at 12:05 a.m.

WHERE: 5353 Deep Forest Dr. 77092.

INJURIES: Two civilians transported to the hospital, one of which was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

PROPERTY SAVED: $500,000 in estimated property saved.

DAMAGE: $580,000 in estimated damage.

CAUSE: Under investigation (pending).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within five minutes to find fire and smoke coming from a 2-story apartment building. They forced entry by cutting through a fence and searched the fire of origin. One victim was found and transported to the hospital, where they where they were pronounced deceased. A second patient was transported to the hospital.

Crews conducted a primary search of the nearby units with no one else found and ventilated the units. CenterPoint arrived on scene and secured the utilities. Firefighters extinguished the fire and ensured all hotspots were fully out. HFD Arson investigators were requested to determine the cause and origin. 66 personnel responded to this incident, including crews from Stations 4, 13, 30, 2, 5, 31, 38, 62, 67, 77, 66, 50 and 15.
