WHAT: Apartment fire.
WHEN: September 18, 2023, at 12:29 p.m.
WHERE: 8701 S. Braeswood Blvd. 77031.
INJURIES: No reported injuries.
PROPERTY SAVED: $16,565,000 in estimated property saved.
DAMAGE: $30,000 in estimated damage.
CAUSE: Unintentional (electrical).
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within two minutes to find smoke coming from a 2-story apartment building. The maintenance personnel were on the roof attempting to extinguish the fire. HFD crews made an offensive attack and searched the apartments below the fire. The fire and smoke had not spread to the units. The utilities were secured, and the fire was fully extinguished. The cause of the fire appeared be electrical in nature and originated in a void space. Two units below the fire had ceiling damage with sheetrock collapsing. 43 personnel were dispatched to this incident, including firefighters from Stations 28, 68, 10, 51, 73, 82 and 8.
