| Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 2300 Lawrence about 7 a.m. today (July 27).
The identity of the male victim, 63, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant G. Lopez and Officer A. Hart reported:
The victim, a construction worker, was attempting to guide a forklift driver traveling northbound at a construction site at the above address. The driver lost sight of his co-worker, who got between the front and rear tires of the forklift, and struck him. The victim was transported by Houston Fire Department paramedics to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. A preliminary investigation determined the victim failed to yield the right-of-way to the vehicle.
The driver of the forklift, who was determined not to be impaired, was questioned and released.
This tragic accident just goes to show how important health and safety is on construction sites. When working with such dangerous vehicles and machines, it is of the utmost importance that everyone is aware of the health and safety regulations for working on a construction site – or else there can be fatal consequences, as this accident proves.
