Houston police are awaiting autopsy results in the death of a man at 5700 Hollister Street about 11 p.m. on October 23.
The deceased male is identified as Jose Riojas, 50.
HPD Homicide Division Detectives A. Rodriguez and M. Perez reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to the above address and observed Houston Fire Department personnel tending to a male on a sidewalk. The male was transported to an area hospital, where doctors pronounced him deceased.
Officers learned the male was involved in a verbal altercation with family members who were inside a vehicle. The male began hitting the vehicle with his fists. A concerned citizen approached the male in an attempt to deescalate the situation. The male reached into the vehicle to get to a family member. The citizen attempted to pull the male from the vehicle which caused the two of them to fall backwards onto the pavement. The male hit his head on the pavement and lost consciousness.
The investigation is pending the male’s cause of death, to be determined by autopsy.
