Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred in the 15400 block of Eastex Freeway (North U.S. Highway 59) about 4:45 p.m. on Sunday (July 12).
The identities of the deceased female and male is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant and Officer D. Ortega reported:
A dark colored SUV traveling southbound at the above address was attempting to exit the freeway. The SUV made contact with a red Freightliner Cascadia 18-wheeler, lost control, hit a barrier wall and caught fire.
Responding Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the driver and a passenger in the SUV deceased at the scene. Another passenger was transported to an area hospital.
The male driver, 40, of the 18-wheeler was not injured and remained at the scene. He did not show signs of impairment and was questioned and released.
The investigation is continuing.
