Second Suspect Arrested, Charged in 2024 Man’s Death at 2400 Gregg Street

A second suspect charged and wanted in the death of a man that occurred at 2400 Gregg Street at about 5:40 p.m. on October 29, 2024 has been arrested.

Both suspects, Latrecia Nicole Washington, 50, and Marshall Paul Garrett, 38, are charged with murder in the 487th State District Court. Booking photos of both suspects are attached to this news release.

The victim is identified as Alton Joseph Martin, 69.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant B. Roberts and Detective J. Wallschlaeger reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to an assault call at the above address and found Mr. Martin suffering from head trauma. Houston Fire Department paramedics transported him to an area hospital where doctors later pronounced him deceased on November 8, 2024.

An autopsy performed by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences determined Martin died due to blunt force trauma.  HPD homicide investigators were then notified.

Further investigation identified Garrett and Washington as two suspects who assaulted Martin following a disturbance at 3302 Liberty Road. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted and Garrett and Washington were subsequently charged on April 8. Garrett is currently in custody at the Harris County Jail.

On Thursday (April 17), Washington was taken into custody and was also booked into the Harris county jail.
