The fatal shooting of a man at 9001 Kempwood Drive about 1 a.m. on Sunday (March 30) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.
The identity of the deceased male, 24, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
The male shooter was transported to an area hospital in critical but stable condition.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C. LaFour and Detective A. Ledford reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting at an apartment complex parking lot at the above address and found an unresponsive male with multiple gunshot wounds. Houston fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the male deceased. Several witnesses told police they were driving the victim to an area hospital from the apartment complex when their vehicle died.
Officers went to the complex and found another male who had suffered blunt force trauma. Officers also located fired rounds and a gun near the injured male. Paramedics transported the male to the hospital.
Further investigation and witness statements determined the deceased male followed the first male (shooter) back to his apartment following a prior physical altercation. The male attempted to force the shooter out of his vehicle to continue the fight. At that time, the shooter fired multiple times and struck the male. The male’s friends then pulled the shooter out of the vehicle and struck him multiple times with their hands and feet before putting the wounded male in a vehicle and attempting to take him to the hospital.
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was consulted and it was determined the case would be referred to a grand jury for review.
