Tragic House Fire in The Washington Avenue Coalition / Memorial Park Area

WHAT: House fire with deceased civilian found.

WHEN: February 25, 2025, at 6:07 a.m.

WHERE: 5400 block of Floyd St. 77007.

INJURIES: A deceased civilian was found inside the home.

PROPERTY SAVED: Not available, home was a total loss.

DAMAGE: Total loss.

CAUSE: Under investigation.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene to find fire and smoke coming from a house with a report of a person still inside. They forced entry through an exterior gate and attempted to enter the home through several entries, however, they were blocked by an accumulation of items on the outside and inside the house.

Unfortunately, a deceased victim was located in the home. Conditions worsened and firefighters went into a defensive mode. The utilities were secured, and the nearby homes were protected. Additional HFD units were requested for manpower. Crews rotated through rehab until the fire was controlled with several areas of collapse. HFD Arson investigators were requested to determine the cause and origin, and the Medical Examiner was notified. Heavy equipment was requested to remove hazards and firefighters ensured all hot spots were fully extinguished. 65 personnel responded to this incident, including crews from Stations 11, 15, 6, 8, 2, 3, 16, 62, 16, 37, 30, Heavy Rescue 11, Rescue 1 and Rehab 42.
