Apartment Fire in The Mid West Area

WHAT: Apartment fire.

WHEN: February 23, 2025, at 2:55 p.m.

WHERE: 2200 S. Gessner Rd. 77066.

INJURIES: One cat found deceased.

PROPERTY SAVED: More than $16,000,000 in estimated property saved.

DAMAGE: $350,000 in estimated damage.

CAUSE: HFD Arson investigators ruled the cause as accidental (lighter).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene to find fire coming from the second floor of an apartment building. They made an attack on the fire and once it was controlled from the exterior, a primary search was completed. The family had escaped the apartment prior to HFDs arrival. Several cats were found alive in a nearby unit. Crews removed the cats from the unit and provided one cat with oxygen. Firefighters rotated through rehab and controlled the fire within about 45 minutes. The American Red Cross arrived on scene to assist the residents. HFD Arson investigators were requested to determine the cause and origin of the fire. 53 personnel responded to this incident, including crews from Stations 69, 15, 28, 83, 10, 51, 60, 75, 57, Rescue 10 and Rehab 42.
