Investigation into Fatal Crash at 5900 Southwest Freeway

Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 5900 Southwest Freeway (South U.S. Highway 59) about 5:45 a.m. today (March 13).

The identity of the deceased male, 18, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant A. Patterson and Officer R. Bymaster reported:

The driver of a white Ford Expedition traveling southbound on the freeway had a flat tire and stopped in a moving lane of traffic at the above address. A black Kia Sportage struck the rear of the Ford and a silver BMW 5 Series hit the Kia.

The unknown male driver of the Ford fled the scene on foot.

Paramedics transported the one passenger in the Ford, three persons in the Kia and the driver of the BMW to area hospitals.  Doctors later pronounced the front male passenger in the Kia deceased. All other persons transported suffered minor injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.
