WHAT: House fire.
WHEN: January 12, 2025, at 12:05 a.m.
WHERE: 8900 block of McAvoy Dr. 77074.
INJURIES: No reported injuries.
PROPERTY SAVED: $240,000 in estimated property saved.
DAMAGE: $115,000 in estimated damage.
CAUSE: Under investigation (appears to be accidental due to unattended lit candles).
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene to find fire coming from the window of a house and made an offensive attack. The home was ventilated, and a primary search was completed. One person was reported to inside, however was determined to be out of the home. The fire progressed in the attic with portions of the roof collapsed. Additional HFD unit were requested, and the fire was brought under control. CenterPoint confirmed there was no meter on the home, and it appeared the house was being powered by portable generators. The American Red Cross was notified to assist the residents and HFD Arson investigators were requested to determine the cause and origin of the fire. 53 personnel responded to this incident, including firefighters from Stations 60, 82, 2, 28, 68, 83, 10, 48, 51, 73, 37, 24, Rescue 10 and Rehab 17 and 42.
