A suspect charged and wanted in the death of a woman last seen at 8950 Glencrest Street about 4:30 p.m. on November 10, 2018 is back in custody.
The suspect, Johnny Leon Wilson, 54, is charged with murder in the 263rd State District Court. A booking photo of Wilson, courtesy of the Grand Prairie Police Department, is attached to this news release.
The remains of the victim, Charine Wilson, 29, were located by Navarro County Sheriff’s Office deputies near Richland, Texas, on December 12, 2018. An autopsy by the Navarro County Medical Examiner’s Office determined she had suffered gunshot wounds. Ms. Wilson was the ex-wife of suspect Wilson.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M. Miller and Detective D. Stark reported:
According to Charine Wilson’s son, he was with her when she drove to Johnny Wilson’s apartment at the above address on November 10, 2018. After a brief time, suspect Johnny Wilson came out of the apartment alone, got into Charine’s vehicle and drove the boy to a fast food restaurant. There, Wilson dropped off the boy and left.
On November 12, 2018, Charine Wilson was reported missing by family members. Further investigation led to the identification of Johnny Wilson as a suspect in this case and, on November 14, 2018, he was charged in his ex-wife’s death. Her body was found the following month.
Johnny Wilson was arrested in this case on February 17, 2019. He posted bail and then fled the Houston area, failing to appear in court.
Subsequent investigation developed information on Johnny Wilson’s whereabouts. On Monday (December 2), Wilson was arrested in Grand Prairie, Texas, by members of the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force and the U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force. Wilson was booked into the Grand Prairie Police Department Jail and is awaiting extradition back to Harris County.
