| Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 7817 Detroit Street about 3:10 a.m. on September 11.
The suspect, Devante Demarcus West, 28, is charged with capital murder in the 496th State District Court. A booking photo of West is attached to this news release.
The victim is identified as Anastacio Cantu, 53.
HPD Homicide Division Detectives C. Sharp and E. May reported:
HPD patrol officers and Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the above address after the victim called 9-1-1 to report he had been shot. Paramedics transported the victim, later identified as Mr. Cantu, to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
At that time, there was no known suspect or vehicle description.
Further investigation identified West as a suspect in this case. He was subsequently arrested and charged for his role in this incident.
The investigation is ongoing.
