UPDATE: One Suspect Arrested, Another Sought in Fatal Shooting at 12100 Overbrook Lane

Charges have been filed against one suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 12100 Overbrook Lane about 7:40 p.m. on October 1.

The suspect, Cameron Grant, 18, is charged with murder in the 209th State District Court.  A booking photo of Grant is attached to this news release.

A second unidentified suspect remains at large.  He is described as a black male, 18 to 25 years old, with black and brown locks, a black shirt and black pants.  A surveillance photo of the suspect (released on Oct. 2) is attached to this news release.

The identity of the victim, 45, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives H. Montealegre-Cerrato and G. Rangel reported:

Officers were dispatched to a shooting call at the above address and observed an unresponsive male on a sidewalk.  He had suffered gunshot wounds.  Paramedics pronounced the man deceased at the scene.

Investigators learned the male was advised of a shoplifting incident and located the theft suspect seated alongside another suspect.  The male confronted the suspects and an altercation ensued.  It escalated when the male used pepper spray on the suspects and then ran after the suspects down a sidewalk.  At some point, the two suspects fired shots at the male and then fled the scene on foot.

Further investigation led to the identification of one of the suspects as Grant.  Last Thursday (Oct. 3), he turned himself in and provided a statement to detectives on his role in the shooting.  Grant was subsequently taken to the Harris County Jail and charged.

Anyone with information on the identity or whereabouts of the wanted suspect is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or speak anonymously with Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
