Person of Interest Sought in Fatal Shooting at 400 Greens Road

Houston police are asking for the public’s help in locating a person of interest in the fatal shooting of a man and wounding of a woman at 400 Greens Road about 8:50 p.m. on Wednesday (September 18).

The person of interest is identified as Jerrell Butler, 41.  A photo of Butler, who is not charged, is attached to this news release.

The identity of the victim, 37, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C. Ponder and Detective J. Meister reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting at an apartment complex at the above address and found an unresponsive man with gunshot wounds and a female, 36, with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.  Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the man deceased,  The woman was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.

A preliminary investigation determined the man was inside an apartment and was involved in an altercation with Butler, which led to his death.   Butler, a family member of the female victim, then fled the scene with possibly a female companion in a maroon or red vehicle.

Detectives want to speak to Butler regarding his involvement in this incident.
