Apartment Fire in The Eldridge / West Oaks Area

WHAT: Apartment fire.

WHEN: August 14, 2024, at 5:36 p.m.

WHERE: 3939 Synott Rd. 77082.

INJURIES: No reported injuries.

PROPERTY SAVED: $1,520,000 in estimated property saved.

DAMAGE: $30,000 in estimated damage.

CAUSE: Heat source to close to combustible.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene to find smoke coming from a 2-story apartment building and made an offensive attack. They pulled the ceiling on the second floor to access the fire in the attic. The fire was contained, and crews kept it from spreading to a nearby building. Four units were overhauled, and hotspots were extinguished. Firefighters ventilated smoke from four additional units and contacted the American Red Cross for the residents. The apartment manager was also on scene. A worker had been welding pipes with a torch when the nearby insulation caught fire. 33 personnel responded to this incident, including firefighters from Stations 2, 78, 83, 75, 76, 86, 57 and Rehab 17.
