UPDATE: Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Shooting at 10630 Beechnut Street

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 10630 Beechnut Street about 2:20 a.m. on July 8.

The suspect, Jaden Matthew Yates-Lawal, 19, is charged with murder in the 182nd State District Court.  A booking photo of Yates-Lawal is attached to this news release.

The victim has been identified as Albert Brent, 49.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant Mark Holbrook and Detective Robert Lujan reported:

Residents of an apartment complex located at the above address called 911 and reported hearing gunshots. Residents found the victim lying in the common area of the complex with apparent gunshot wounds. Paramedics pronounced the victim, later identified as Mr. Brent, deceased at the scene.

At that time, there was no known suspect(s) or motive in the shooting.

Further investigation identified Yates-Lawal as the suspect in this case.  On Monday (July 29), Yates-Lawal was arrested by the HPD Westside Patrol Division Crime Suppression Team.

Yates-Lawal was subsequently charged for the murder of Brent, as well as an unrelated robbery incident at that same apartment complex.
